The Gender Studies Program fosters learning and partnerships that span divisions of gender, sex, race, ethnicity, class, religion, age, able-bodiedness, and nationality, creating a new understanding of power dynamics and gender categories, and empowering individuals and communities. Students minoring in Gender Studies can choose from a wide range of courses in disciplines such as Sociology, English, Social Work, Communications, and Philosophy.
Note: The Gender Studies Program is in the process of phasing out GST 490 as a core requirement. Current students minoring in Gender Studies must take GST 490 with either Dr. Bernadette Barton in the spring (coupled with the Sociology capstone) or with Dr. Sylvia Henneberg in the fall (coupled with the English capstone). Once the capstone is eliminated as a program requirement, it will be replaced with one additional elective.
This minor is offered at the Morehead campus; some courses may be available online.
- The first step is admission to Morehead State University, see MSU's admission requirements.
- For course lists and program requirements please refer to the undergraduate catalog.
- Core class: GST 273, Introduction to Gender Studies
- Five electives from the list of courses
- Capstone: GST 490, Integrated Gender Studies Capstone
